Mid-career / consolidator

For researchers who have gained several years of research experience after their PhD. Four domain variants: Science, SSH, AES, and ZonMw (Health R&D). Hosted at Dutch knowledge institutions. Enables researchers to conduct research of their own choice.

Bridging grant for holders of an MFAG or Start-Up grant in their final year of funding, providing one additional year of support to complete the ongoing project and gather further data before applying to consolidated-researcher calls (Investigator Grant). Host institution must be in Italy.

For researchers who have gained several years of research experience (Science Domain). Enables researchers to develop their own innovative line of research. Applicants must be affiliated with a Dutch knowledge institution.

For researchers with several years of experience in Social Sciences and Humanities. Enables researchers to develop their own innovative line of research. Applicants must be affiliated with a Dutch knowledge institution.

DFG Emmy Noether funds outstanding early-career researchers (≈up to 4y post-PhD with international experience) to lead an independent junior research group at a German institution. The German equivalent of NWO Vidi / ERC Starting tier.

For researchers with several years of experience in Applied and Engineering Sciences. Enables researchers to develop their own innovative line of research. Applicants must be affiliated with a Dutch knowledge institution.

Open to researchers of any nationality with 5–15 years post-PhD experience (extendable for parental leave, illness, etc.). Host institution must be a public or private research organisation in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe associated country. Single PI applies; any field of research; bottom-up, no predetermined priorities.

Three funding instruments (Veni, Vidi, Vici) tailored to various phases in researchers' scientific careers, enabling them to conduct independent research. Targets early- to mid-career researchers at Dutch institutions.

Priority notice (active since 2003) encouraging high-quality ME/CFS research applications across any MRC grant or fellowship scheme. Multidisciplinary teams required; patient and public involvement strongly encouraged. Applications in this priority area receive preferential funding consideration when tied on median ranking score. UK research organisations; international co-leads eligible for costs if providing expertise unavailable in the UK.

For researchers up to 8 years post-PhD (12 years for clinicians) who have never held a professorship. Applicants must have ≥2 years' research activity at a Swiss HEI, or be Swiss nationals/hold a Swiss degree. Targets researchers seeking their first independent professorial position in Switzerland. Proposals must not be submitted in parallel with an ongoing SNSF project under evaluation.

For researchers with PhD awarded >7 and ≤12 years ago (between 1 Jan 2011 and 16 Oct 2016 for 2023 call), demonstrating research independence. Host institution must be in Switzerland; grant is transferable between Swiss institutions. Family allowances may be added above the CHF 1.75M cap.

ANR Tremplin-ERC programme to support French researchers preparing high-level ERC Consolidator Grant applications. Open to all disciplines (LS, PE, SH per ERC categories). Applicants must be hosted at a French institution. Aims to increase France's ERC success rate.

New 2026 initiative providing dedicated financial support to leaders of ANR JCJC projects, available from 2 years before to 1 year after project end, conditional on submission to the next ERC call session. Applicant must be a current or recent ANR JCJC project leader based in France.
