European Fellowships are open to any nationality hosted in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe Associated Country; Global Fellowships require EU nationals or long-term residents for an outgoing phase in a non-associated third country plus a mandatory 12-month return phase. For early-career researchers (within 4 years post-PhD, or 9 years post-medical exam with ≥3 years clinical work) wishing to conduct an independent project at a Swiss higher education institution. Applicants must have Swiss nationality, a Swiss degree, or ≥12 months research experience in Switzerland. Covers grantee salary and project funds. This is the final Ambizione call before the scheme is replaced by a new postdoctoral funding scheme in 2028.

For established research leaders with no PhD-based eligibility window, requiring a significant record of major scientific achievements. PI must dedicate minimum 30% working time to project, with at least 50% of total working time in an EU Member State or Associated Country. Host Institution must be established in an EU Member State or Associated Country. Single PI, no consortium required.

Pilot data generation and hypothesis-driven mechanistic studies examining inflammatory and immune processes in neurological conditions and mental illness. Excludes GWAS/epidemiological studies and MS-only projects. Funded at 80% full economic cost; PhD studentship costs not eligible. UK institutions; principal investigator CV and key publications required at expression of interest stage.
