Postdoctoral fellowships

Postdoctoral fellowship program in collaboration with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). Supports Swiss early-career researchers for research stays in Japan. Mobility/residency rules likely apply.

For postdoctoral researchers with a PhD in a biological discipline who wish to pursue frontier, interdisciplinary life sciences research in a new country. Applicants must change country, cannot work in their country of nationality or PhD country, and must have at least one lead-author publication. 100% FTE commitment required; for-profit host institutions ineligible.

For postdoctoral researchers holding a doctoral degree in a non-biological discipline (e.g. physics, chemistry, mathematics, engineering, computer science) with little or no life sciences experience, wishing to transition into frontier life sciences research in a new country. Same mobility, publication, and host-institution rules as LTF; 100% FTE commitment required.

For postdoctoral researchers with a PhD in a biological discipline who wish to pursue frontier, interdisciplinary life sciences research in a new country. Purely applied, clinical, or pharmaceutical projects are excluded. Full-time commitment required; 100% FTE.

Applicants must change country, cannot work in their country of nationality or PhD country, and must have at least one lead-author publication. Full-time commitment required; 100% FTE.

Supports excellent postdoctoral researchers in life sciences with international mobility as a key requirement. Fellows must move to a host laboratory in a different country. Includes salary/stipend, relocation allowance, and support for fellows with children. First-author refereed preprints accepted as equivalent to publications.

Open to early-career researchers (PhD or equivalent, up to ~3 years postdoctoral experience) at not-for-profit organisations in the UK, Republic of Ireland, or eligible low- and middle-income countries (excluding India and mainland China). Covers any discipline including STEM, humanities, social sciences, and clinical research aimed at advancing understanding or developing methodologies to benefit health. Applicants must contribute at least 80% research time; health professionals may retain up to 40% clinical duties.

Open to PhD holders of any nationality with up to 8 years of post-PhD research experience. European Fellowships require hosting in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe associated country; Global Fellowships require EU nationals or long-term residents conducting research in a third country with a mandatory 12-month return phase. Applicants cannot have resided in the host country for more than 12 months in the last 3 years (mobility rule applies).

Open to postdoctoral researchers of any nationality with max 8 years post-PhD experience. European Fellowships require a host in an EU/associated country; Global Fellowships require EU/associated country nationals or long-term residents working in a third country then returning to Europe. Researchers must not have resided in the host country for more than 12 months in the last 3 years (standard MSCA mobility rule). Open to all scientific fields including Euratom research.

Individual postdoctoral fellowships for researchers up to 8 years post-PhD. European Fellowships are open to any nationality hosted in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe Associated Country; Global Fellowships require EU nationals or long-term residents for an outgoing phase in a non-associated third country plus a mandatory 12-month return phase. Full-time commitment required; MSCA mobility rules apply.

For early-career researchers (within 4 years post-PhD, or 9 years post-medical exam with ≥3 years clinical work) wishing to conduct an independent project at a Swiss higher education institution. Applicants must have Swiss nationality, a Swiss degree, or ≥12 months research experience in Switzerland. Covers grantee salary and project funds. This is the final Ambizione call before the scheme is replaced by a new postdoctoral funding scheme in 2028.
