Urgency Grants
Funds urgent data collection and essential initial analysis following unexpected environmental events; PI must be UK-resident, employed at lecturer level or above at an eligible UK research organisation. Equipment over £10,000 not fundable; does not cover time-limited or foreseeable events.
Resilient Economy and Security through Ecosystem Transitions: Strategic Research Projects
Up to £2.5M FEC (80% funded, i.e. up to £2M NERC contribution; international co-lead costs funded at 100%)
Interdisciplinary/transdisciplinary research on UK and international ecosystems under the RESET programme (co-funded by NERC and Defra). Project lead must be at a UK NERC-eligible research organisation. Covers ecosystem transitions, cascading risks, and resilience. PhD studentship and NERC ship-time costs are not funded. NERC funds 80% FEC; international co-lead costs at 100% (max 30% of total FEC).
Water4All 2026 Joint Call
Up to £312,500 at 100% FEC per UK project (higher requires justification)
Transnational call on sustainable water management (integrated water resource management, river basin/groundwater management, water resilience, monitoring, water-positive solutions); UK funds Topics 1-3 only. UK project lead must be at a UK research organisation eligible for UKRI funding; international researchers cannot be UK project co-leads.
