For researchers with PhD awarded >7 and ≤12 years ago (between 1 Jan 2011 and 16 Oct 2016 for 2023 call), demonstrating research independence. Host institution must be in Switzerland; grant is transferable between Swiss institutions. Family allowances may be added above the CHF 1.75M cap.

Korean-Swiss Science and Technology Programme – Call 2024/2025 (Quantum Domain)

Joint Research Projects (JRPs) between Swiss and South Korean researchers in quantum computing/simulation, quantum communications and networks, quantum sensing/measurement, fundamentals of quantum information science and technology, and quantum ethics. Swiss applicant must be based at a Swiss institution; Korean partner funded by NRF. ~10 projects funded per call.
Projects on Health Research and Wellbeing
CHF 100k–250k per annum per applicant; max CHF 1M per annum per project
Open to researchers at Swiss universities of applied sciences and universities of teacher education whose research is directly related to health and wellbeing. Applicants must hold a doctorate or equivalent (≥3 years research as main income + 4 years additional experience). Applicant salary not eligible. Max one application per submission deadline. Research plan max 15 pages / 60,000 characters.
NCCR for Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) – Additional Call (6+ Series)
CHF 8M–20M (first 4-year period)
Open to experienced researchers at Swiss higher education institutions (ETH domain, accredited universities, UAS, UTE, or research facilities of national importance). Proposals must be in English. Home institution must formally support the application and commit to financial/structural co-funding. ~10% of other applicants may be based outside Switzerland. Industrial partners may participate but cannot be applicants.
Swiss Postdoctoral Fellowships
~CHF 105,000/year salary + up to CHF 24,000 project funds (2-year grant)
Postdoctoral fellowship for researchers of any nationality hosted at Swiss institutions. Mobility rule: applicant must not have resided or worked in Switzerland >12 months in the 36 months prior to deadline. Requires PhD; 100% FTE (min 80% for clinical/care duties). Covers salary, social security, and project costs. Double funding with MSCA or other grants for the same project is excluded.
Money follows Researcher
For existing SNSF grantees moving abroad. Allows continuation of an SNSF-funded project either remotely from Switzerland or directly at the new research location abroad. Supplementary to an existing SNSF main grant.
MARVIS – Space research with the SNSF
Multidisciplinary applied research with a clear link to space. Applicants must be Swiss academic institutions; industry partners (Swiss or foreign) are consortium partners but cannot receive MARVIS funding. Requires 100% matching funds over project duration; no overhead charged. Proposals submitted via mySNF in English.
MAPS – Multilateral Academic Projects
Up to CHF 350,000 per country team
Multilateral research projects conducted jointly by researchers in Switzerland and at least 2 of the 5 partner countries (Bulgaria, Croatia, Poland, Romania, Hungary). Each country team funded up to CHF 350,000. Part of the second Swiss contribution to reduce economic and social inequalities in the enlarged EU.
Spark Grants
CHF 50,000–CHF 100,000
Open to all disciplines. Applicants must hold a doctorate (or equivalent 3+ years research experience) and be employed at an eligible Swiss host institution (per RIPA Articles 4 & 5). Single applicant only; proposals must be submitted in English and fully anonymised. Not compatible with Bridge Proof of Concept, Postdoc.Mobility, or Swiss Postdoctoral Fellowships. No overhead contributions.
SNSF Advanced Grants 2023
Up to CHF 1,900,000 (plus up to CHF 870,000 additional costs)
Swiss substitute for ERC Advanced Grants for researchers based at Swiss institutions (min. 50% FTE). Single applicant only; PhD required (or 3 years research equivalent). Applicants must have an outstanding track record over the past 10 years. Minimum 30% time commitment to project. Cannot hold a concurrent ERC frontier research grant unless it ends before December 2025.
Bilateral Programmes – Joint Research Projects (JRPs)
Funds the Swiss part of international Joint Research Projects between Switzerland and partner countries with high scientific potential (2025–2028 mandate). Swiss applicant must be based at a Swiss university or university of applied sciences. Calls may be limited to specific subject areas relevant to both countries. Similar costs covered as in standard SNSF project funding.
