Open to research-active clinical lecturers (or veterinary equivalent) based at UK administering organisations who hold a PhD or MD, a medical/dental/veterinary undergraduate degree, and are in higher speciality training. Covers directly incurred research costs (consumables, equipment); no salary, research assistants, PhD students, or postdoctoral staff. Administered by the Academy of Medical Sciences.

Funds international exchange programmes in health-related humanities, social sciences or bioethics. Requires a lead applicant at an eligible UK host organisation plus programme leaders elsewhere (excluding mainland China); activities involving transfer of funds into mainland China are not permitted; host organisations must confirm commitment via statements and sign grant/sub-agreements.

Funds bold, creative research in any discipline (STEM, experimental medicine, humanities, social science, clinical/public health) with potential to improve health. Administering organisation must be a not-for-profit in UK, Republic of Ireland, or a low/middle-income country (excluding India and mainland China); lead applicant needs a permanent or long-term contract. Location rules change for submissions from 29 October 2026: check the current funder requirements for the UK and eligible low- and middle-income countries in Africa, South Asia and South-East Asia.

Funds teams proposing circadian-based and/or physical activity interventions for early intervention in anxiety/depression in young people aged 10-18, in the UK and/or Africa. Requires a clinical trials specialist, lived experience involvement, and expertise in mental health science plus circadian/physical activity science. Administering organisation must be not-for-profit, anywhere except mainland China.

Funds global evidence infrastructure hubs for evidence synthesis supporting health research/policy in Climate and Health, Infectious Disease, Mental Health or Discovery Research. Lead applicant must be based at an LMIC organisation (not mainland China); commercial organisations cannot be administering organisations; up to 5 awards expected.

Funds definitive effectiveness studies and implementation/scaling strategies for psychological and/or social interventions for early intervention in anxiety, depression and psychosis in people aged 10-30, in the UK or LMICs. Administering organisation can be anywhere except mainland China; commercial organisations cannot be the administering organisation.

Funds research into causal mechanisms underpinning early interventions for anxiety, depression and/or psychosis, requiring involvement of people with lived experience throughout the project. Lead applicant must commit at least 20% research time; co-applicants at least 10%. Host organisation must confirm salary underwriting arrangements.

Funds collaborative teams researching anxiety, depression and/or psychosis through the lens of sleep and circadian science. Requires involvement of people with lived experience throughout the project; host organisations anywhere in the world except mainland China and sanctioned territories; lead applicant must commit at least 20% research time, coapplicants at least 10%.

Funds mental health research teams (lead and co-applicants) addressing treatment of anxiety and depression; host organisations can be universities, research institutes, non-academic healthcare organisations, not-for-profits or companies worldwide except mainland China. Lead/co-applicants must contribute at least 20% research time; UK/ROI-based leads cannot claim salary.

Funds research into the biological, psychological and/or social mechanisms underlying anxiety and trauma-related problems, open to higher education institutions, research institutes, non-academic healthcare organisations, not-for-profit/NGOs and commercial organisations. Applicants cannot transfer grant funds into mainland China; lead applicants must contribute at least 20% research time. Involvement of people with lived experience is required and assessed.

For emerging or established research groups in health-related humanities, social sciences or bioethics; lead applicant plus 1-6 co-applicants, each needing a permanent/long-term contract or guarantee thereof. Organisations may be based anywhere except mainland China; transfer of funds into mainland China is not permitted.

For early-career researchers with a PhD (or ≥4 years equivalent research experience) and up to 3 years' postdoctoral experience to lead an independent discovery research project relevant to human health. Must commit ≥80% time to research; administering organisation must be a not-for-profit in UK, Republic of Ireland, or a low/middle-income country (excluding India and mainland China). Coapplicants not accepted; grant funds cannot be transferred to mainland China.

For emerging or established research groups in health-related humanities, social sciences or bioethics, proposing a research development programme that builds a sustainable research agenda and career development. Host organisations can be anywhere except mainland China; funds cannot be transferred into mainland China.

Open to UK-based researchers self-identifying as Black, Bangladeshi or Pakistani heritage (including mixed heritage), who hold an undergraduate or PhD degree from a UK institution and are early- to mid-career. Funds research or research-adjacent career development activities; coapplicants not accepted.

Funds humanities, social science and bioethics exchange programmes; covers staff salaries, equipment, overheads, travel, subsistence and overseas allowances including for low- and middle-income country researchers working abroad.

For mid-career researchers ready to lead a substantial, innovative research programme in any discipline that improves human life, health and wellbeing. Administering organisation must be a not-for-profit in the UK, Republic of Ireland, or a low- or middle-income country (excluding India and mainland China); coapplicants not accepted and funds cannot be transferred into mainland China.

Funds research on early intervention for cognitive and functional outcomes in people experiencing or at risk of psychosis; excludes animal models, blue-skies research, phase III pharmacological trials, and implementation science as sole focus. Requires lived experience involvement in design/delivery/dissemination. Host organisations cannot be based in mainland China.
