Computational biology & AI grants

UKRI/EPSRC funding for speculative, high-risk research developing novel AI technologies, hardware, algorithms or systems that improve sustainability of future AI. Technology-led proposals only; majority non-technical (social science, policy, legal, ethics) applications excluded. Projects must start 1 February 2027; only UK-registered organisations may lead via the UKRI Funding Service.

Supports sustainable UK bioscience infrastructure such as databases, software tools and biological material collections (e.g. culture/germplasm collections, mutant lines, DNA samples). Projects can only start by 1 July 2027 at the earliest; BBSRC funds 80% of full economic cost, with 20% from the host research organisation. Excludes biomedical/clinical-focused resources and projects where data generation is the primary aim.

Targeted Grants to Math+AI Institutes, offered by the Simons Foundation's Mathematics and Physical Sciences (MPS) division, support institutes working at the intersection of mathematics and artificial intelligence.

Supports development of novel, non-commercially-available research instrumentation and related data science tools at Danish non-profit research institutions. Applicant must hold a PhD and be employed at least 80% as postdoc, scientist, or professor-level staff at a Danish university or research institution.

Supports digital/AI-enabled medical devices (MDR/IVDR) at Innovation Maturity Level 6 aiming to reach IML 7, funding clinical validation, regulatory submission (CE-mark), product finalisation and market readiness. Commercialising entity must sign a Financial Sustainability Contribution Agreement.

Co-financing of Norwegian participation in the EuroHPC call on Quantum Machine Learning.

Norwegian participation in a EuroHPC call on quantum machine learning, co-funded by the Research Council of Norway with NOK 15 million.

Thematic research call on artificial intelligence requiring a joint, binding collaboration between an applicant and a named Co-PI, both holding a PhD; application must include at least one PhD student or postdoctoral candidate. Application must be written in English.

Supports postdocs with a doctoral degree pursuing hypothesis-driven cancer immunology research integrated with computational biology/data science, conducted under a sponsor (assistant professor or higher) at a non-profit host institution; no citizenship restrictions. Applicants must have fewer than 5 years of mentored research experience (exceptions for MDs).

Supports digital or AI-enabled medical devices (MDR/IVDR) at Innovation Maturity Level 6 aiming to reach IML 7, requiring clinical validation, regulatory submission and market readiness activities. Lead applicant must be a commercialising company; solutions must target 150,000 EU patients/citizens and generate revenue within 3 years post-funding.

Develops dynamic, multiscale Virtual Human Twins integrating AI and FAIR multimodal data (multi-omics, imaging, real-world data) for cancer onset/progression modelling and personalised treatment, with mandatory data sharing via UNCAN.eu and the Advanced VHT Platform. Requires multidisciplinary consortium incl. healthcare professionals and patients; successful projects must join the Cancer Mission 'Understanding' cluster.

UK registered AI SMEs with an existing AI/machine learning solution at TRL 5-6 can lead collaborative projects to deploy AI/ML solutions that perform, control or coordinate operational activity. Consortium must include a UK medium or large deployer organisation.

Funding for UK Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs) in AI, supporting cohort-based doctoral training across priority areas (science/research, health, environment/energy, agriculture, defence/security, creative industries, responsible AI). Must be led by a UK research organisation with doctoral-awarding powers; businesses may join only as project partners.
